NOAA: Five Major Hurricanes Could Strike U.S., Caribbean This Year

May 22, 2007 By: Joe Pike Travel Agent

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration held its 2007 Atlantic Hurricane Season Outlook on Tuesday, informing media that three to five major hurricanes could hit the U.S and the Caribbean between June and November. NOAA said the season would include 13 to 17 named storms, seven to10 hurricanes and three to five major hurricanes. Two to four hurricanes will make landfall in the U.S. on the East Coast, while two to three are expected along the Caribbean seas. The conference included representatives from NOAA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the National Hurricane Center. While last year's season was an easy one, "there is no guarantee this season will be no less than very tough," said Michael Chertoff, United States Secretary of Homeland Security.
