Originally planning to open in late 2015 as a single-building property in the Exchange building, the W Amsterdam will now include a second building. The hotel will expand to include the adjacent KAS Bank building in Dam Square.
The Bank building will be remodeled to hold 66 guestrooms and suites. A new nightclub, spa, restaurant, spa and creative concept space will also be included in the new property.
“The W brand clearly resonates with the Dutch market, and we can’t wait to bring the W mix of contemporary luxury to the city when we launch the hotel in autumn next year,” said Michael Wade, President of Starwood Hotels and Resorts, the parent company of W Hotels.
The Exchange building will feature a rooftop hotel lobby, where guests will be encouraged to mingle. The Exchange and Bank buildings are both being designed by Office Winhov of Amsterdam and BK architecture of Tel Aviv.
This will be the seventh W Hotel in Europe.
