LAN Airlines recently launched a new affiliate carrier called LAN Colombia. It will now become the second largest airline in Colombia and add service to 22 domestic destinations in the country, including Cartagena, Cali and Medellin. It will also provide service to Fort Lauderdale, Florida from Bogota D.C. This is the next step for LAN Airlines, after acquiring the Colombian airline, AIRES, in November 2010. Since then, the airline has invested $405 million toward the implementation of LAN operational standards, fleet updates, rebranding, and expansion, with the inclusion of three new Airbus A320 aircraft.
LAN Colombia will offer the best network of domestic flights within Colombia with a fleet of 26 aircraft and a workforce of 1,750. The new affiliate carrier will also become part of the second biggest passenger market in South America after Brazil.
