Libya to Issue Visas to U.S. Tourists

May 25, 2010 By: Kirk Cassels

Libya Expeditions, a tour operator and travel adventure specialist in Libya, reports that, effective immediately, visas are being approved for U.S. citizens for travel to Libya. A groundbreaking trade and investment agreement inked between  Libya and the U.S. is lifting all visa restrictions on U.S. citizens traveling to the country.

The tourism move comes just after the two countries signed a trade and investment agreement that seeks to provide the opportunity for both countries to study and discuss any issue of common interest, including trade relations, and the study of any difficulties that may face their bilateral trade relations and providing solution as well. Libya was on the U.S. State Sponsors of Terrorism list until its removal in 2007 after it abandoned its weapons of mass destruction program in 2003.

Ryad Sunusi, Libya Expeditions' founder and CEO, says Libya has earned a cult reputation in recent years among adventure enthusiasts and the discerning cultural traveler, citing ancient civilizations, classical ruins, desert landscapes and five UNESCO World Heritage Sites: The Roman ruins of Leptis Magna and Sabratha; the Hellenic ruins of Cyrene; the desert town of Ghadames; and the Rock-Art Sites of the freakish Tadrart Akakus.
