Last year, we reported a plan to develop a train system in Honolulu that would help visitors and locals alike easily get around the city. Today, the plans were dealt a setback: The Associated Press is reporting that the planned rail project now faces a $150 million reduction in federal funds.
According to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, the U.S. House Appropriations Committee approved a budget Tuesday to cut funding for the project, which the Obama administration requested $250 million to complete.
But there's hope: U.S. Senator Daniel Inouye says he will continue to ensure Honolulu receives the necessary funding to advance the 20-mile rail project that would link East Kapolei with the Ala Moana Center.
