What's Happening on Oahu?January 3, 2011 By: Jena Tesse Fox
If your clients are heading to Oahu this winter, there is plenty for them to do while on the island...
The new Northwestern Hawaiian Islands Exhibit is currently under construction at the Waikiki Aquarium and will open in the spring of 2011. The exhibit will feature a living reef ecosystem representative of that found in the world’s most isolated islands. Interactive touch screens associated with the exhibit will provide additional information on the significance of the islands, their ecology and biodiversity, and the importance of preserving this almost pristine marine ecosystem for future generations.
Starting this month, Kualoa Ranch will offer guests the opportunity to enjoy two tours and a Hawaiian-style backyard BBQ dinner. During dinner, guests will listen to ancient chants and watch hula performances that tell the legends of Kualoa and Kualoa’s paniolo.
Waimea Valley will begin offering weekly Saturday hikes throughout 2011 beginning on January 8. A strenuous hike for the more serious hiker will be featured on the last Saturday of each month. Guides will help hikers identify native and exotic plants, view various streams and the Waimea Waterfall, point out native fish, rare endemic aquatic moth pupa, and showcase the Valley’s indigenous birds.
