What's New in Oahu: The Hotels

July 13, 2010 By: Jena Tesse Fox

Hawaii's capital island has some major hotel developments in the works. Here are just three:

The Waikiki Edition, the world’s first Edition-brand hotel by Marriott International and hotelier Ian Schrager, is scheduled to open in Waikiki in September 2010. The luxury, boutique hotel will have 353 rooms, a restaurant by Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto, an exclusive nightclub, a full-service spa, a luxury ballroom for meetings and weddings, an outdoor movie theater, and more.
Disney’s upcoming West Oahu resort, Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, Ko Olina, Hawaii, is scheduled to open its first phase on August 29, 2011. The 21-acre resort on the Waianae Coast will have 360 guestrooms, 481 Disney Vacation Club Villas, pools, hot tubs, a snorkeling lagoon, a river, meeting rooms, wedding facilities, an 18,000-square-foot spa, and two restaurants.

Hilton has announced that two new timeshare towers are scheduled to be built at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.  In 2013, construction will start on the first tower that will be 37 stories and include 300 units.  The first tower is expected to be completed in 2015. Construction of the second tower, a 250-unit building, is projected to begin about five years after the first tower opens. New swimming pools and a two-story retail complex, as well as additional parking spaces, are also part of the construction plan.
