Carnival Modifies Shipboard Smoking Policy

// (c) 2011 Carnival Cruise Lines

Carnival Cruise Lines is modifying its smoking policy to curtail smoking on all of its ships.

The policy changes are a result of guest surveys conducted by Carnival, which indicated that nearly 90 percent of all Carnival Cruise Lines’ guests are non-smokers and that less than five percent of guests opt to smoke in their staterooms. The changes will affect all 23 Carnival Cruise Lines ships, and they will roll out in two stages:

Effective June 15, 2011, smoking in public areas will only be permitted in Carnival’s dance clubs, designated areas of the casino and casino bar, certain sections on the open deck and in the jazz clubs on 13 Carnival ships: Carnival Destiny, Carnival Triumph, Carnival Victory, Carnival Spirit, Carnival Pride, Carnival Legend, Carnival Miracle, Carnival Conquest, Carnival Glory, Carnival Valor, Carnival Liberty, Carnival Freedom and Carnival Splendor. These jazz clubs will also permit smoking cigars.

Effective December 1, 2011, smoking will be prohibited in all guest staterooms. Guests in balcony accommodations will be able to smoke cigarettes and cigars outside on the balcony. Spa staterooms on Carnival Splendor, Carnival Dream and Carnival Magic, will remain entirely smoke-free, including the balconies.

Carnival Cruise Lines operates three- to 16-day voyages to the Bahamas, Caribbean, Mexican Riviera, Alaska, Hawaii, Panama Canal, Bermuda and Europe.
