NCL's "Epic" New Ship

January 28, 2009 By: David Eisen

Norwegian Epic is the final name of Norwegian Cruise Line's (NCL) newest ship, which is currently being built at the STX Europe shipyard in France and scheduled to debut in summer 2010.

Under the guise of F3 until now, Norwegian Epic will be NCL's largest ship to date, with a capacity of 4,200 passengers, rivaling the behemoth ships of Royal Caribbean. It will also boast such features as curved-wall guest rooms and an ice bar.

NCL originally ordered two of these Epic-proportioned ships for delivery in 2010, but has since nixed plans for a second.

The ship will sail in the Caribbean year-round and home port in Miami. The Western Caribbean itinerary will call in Costa Maya, Mexico; Roatán, Bay Islands, Honduras; and Cozumel, Mexico. Eastern Caribbean voyages will stop in Philipsburg, St. Maarten; St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands and Nassau, Bahamas.

NCL will begin accepting reservations this spring.
