New Pricing Structure From Hurtigruten Gives Clients More Trip Flexibility

March 29, 2011

Hurtigruten’s new port-to-port pricing structure now allows agents to help their clients customize their Norwegian cruise itineraries by combining the line’s Classic Norwegian Coastal Voyage with extended stays in any of its 34 ports of call included on the west coast itinerary.

The new pricing system benefits passengers who desire to spend more time onshore in select coastal cities, as well as clients who simply wish to explore more of Norway.

Nightly rates for an unspecified cabin during the winter, autumn/spring and summer season are priced from $119, $142 and $202, respectively; rates for guaranteed outside cabins are $127, $158 and $250.

“Hurtigruten has 11 ships serving 34 ports daily, creating a choice of 1,122 possible sailings,” says Hurtigruten sales director Rolf Logan. “Out of a complex travel product, we have now established a pricing system that is easy to understand and even easier to customize to fit the guest’s travel needs and wishes.”

The anchor port for the full itinerary is the historic city of Bergen, which is known for its famous fish market; Romanesque architecture; King Hakons Hall; the Rosenkrantz Tower; and the Peninsula of Nordnes with the Aquarium of Bergen.  Other ports of note include the cultural center of Trondheim, home to the famous Trondheim Symphony Orchestra and the majestic concert hall of Olavshallen, and Tromso, the largest town north of the Arctic Circle and home to the Arctic Cathedral as well as the Northern Lights observation center.

The line also offers a number of bookable optional excursions, priced from as low as $32 per person, and ranging from dog sledding to Sami cultural experiences. Other examples include A Taste of Vesterålen, a guided tour illuminating the history and landscape of Vesterålen; the Lofotr Viking Feast, which immerses guests in Viking culture with a visit to the Viking museum and a real Viking feast, complete with home-brewed mead; and a trip across the 71st parallel to the sub-Arctic landscape of the North Cape Plateau, the northernmost point in continental Europe and the most popular optional excursion for Hurtigruten passengers in 2010.
