Princess, Royal Caribbean and NCL Adjust Schedules Post-Storm

August 29, 2011 By: Susan Young

The Caribbean Princess is just one of several cruise ships with altered itineraries as a result of Hurricane Irene. // (c) 2011 Princess Cruises.
Princess Cruises' Caribbean Princess sailed earlier than anticipated on Saturday, heading east to avoid Hurricane Irene. As a result, the original port call planned for Halifax today will now be made on Tuesday; the ship will arrive there at 7 a.m. Tuesday, and departing at 4 p.m. the same day. In turn, the originally scheduled port call for St. John on Tuesday will be cancelled.
There is both good news and bad news for Royal Caribbean guests hoping for a tropical island experience at CocoCay early this week. Freedom of the Seas’ call to CocoCay planned for today has been cancelled. Instead, the ship will call on Nassau, Bahamas, remaining in port from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In a statement, the line said: “We anticipate that Monarch of the Seas will call on CocoCay tomorrow, as scheduled.”
Norwegian Gem stayed at sea yesterday, keeping a safe distance from the storm, instead of returning to New York as planned. The ship arrived back in New York this morning, and the line asked all guests scheduled to depart yesterday to now arrive at the New York pier starting at noon today.
The Norwegian ship will sail at 4 p.m. today for Bermuda, and the line expects the cruise to spend three full days in Bermuda as planned.
