Royal Caribbean Shifts Ships to Evacuate CocoCay

August 23, 2011 By: Susan Young

In addition to the itinerary changes Travel Agent reported yesterday, Cynthia Martinez, the spokesperson for Royal Caribbean, told us this morning that two other ships are now impacted by the path of Hurricane Irene.
"In advance of the storm, our staff on the island of CocoCay need to prepare the site and evacuate all employees before the hurricane hits," Martinez said. "Because of this, Monarch of the Seas will not be able to call on CocoCay today, and Majesty of the Seas will not be able to call on CocoCay tomorrow."
As a result, she said Monarch of the Seas is in Nassau today and will spend the next two days at sea before returning to Port Canaveral on Friday.
Majesty of the Seas will sail directly to Key West, arriving at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The ship will stay in Key West overnight and remain there until 6 p.m. on Thursday.
