Seabourn Making Seattle Move, HAL's Meadows in as President

January 7, 2011 By: David Eisen

Pam Conover is stepping down as Seabourn's president.

Seabourn is making a cross-country move. Carnival Corp.'s luxury brand is relocating its headquarters from Miami to Seattle. The bigger news is that Seabourn's president, Pamela Conover, who was featured in Luxury Travel Advisor's February cover story, will step aside following the transition, which will take place over the next few months, replaced by Holland America's Richard Meadows, who will retain his role as executive vice president of marketing, sales & guest programs for Holland America Line. Holland America's offices are also in Seattle, and the two brands will continue to function as spearate brand units. They will, however, leverage off each other, which Micky Arison, chairman and CEO of Carnival Corp., said will pay off with savings in the long run. “Seabourn’s move to Seattle will allow this great brand to further prosper through the natural efficiencies realized from sharing technology and support services with Holland America Line," he said. "Once the transition is completed and the synergies are fully realized, we estimate annual savings starting in 2012 in the $20 to $25 million range.”

Carnival says Conover will continue to serve in her role during the transition period but has chosen not to move to Seattle at this time. Following the transition, she will continue to serve as special advisor and brand ambassador for Seabourn. Carnival Corp.'s Chairman and CEO Micky Arison praised Conover on her work with the line and her instrumental role in the fleet's expansion (the Seabourn fleet currently includes Seabourn Pride, Seabourn Spirit, Seabourn Legend, Seabourn Odyssey and Seabourn Sojourn; Seabourn Quest will enter service in June of 2011). “Pam has played a valuable role in a number of Carnival ventures over her 16-year career here, including serving as president of Cunard and most recently Seabourn,” he said.

Richard Meadows has held a number of executive positions at Carnival during his 25-year tenure with the company, including as Seabourn’s senior vice president of sales & marketing. “Rick is uniquely qualified to oversee Seabourn’s further progress in its new headquarters,” Arison said.
