Travel Community Continues Myanmar Relief Efforts

As Myanmar continues to struggle in the aftermath of Cyclone Nargis, the travel community around the world continues to provide support to the relief effort, which has faced frustrating obstacles from the Myanmar government.

Thai Airways is providing humanitarian assistance to survivors of the cyclone by transporting relief goods to Myanmar. Thai Airways began the relief support on May 5, the first day flights were allowed to return to the region. Since then, the airline has donated 90,000 relief good items and transported them to Myanmar, including blankets, food, water, medicine, clothes and household items. Thai Airways has also resumed normal flight operations with two return flights on the Bangkok-Yangon route per day.

Abercrombie & Kent Myanmar was one of the first entities to make a difference within Myanmar, since they were able to mobilize teams on the ground. Abercrombie & Kent Philanthropy donated an additional $10,000 in immediate aid and is coordinating fundraising efforts through Friends of Conservation to collect donations. To date contributions received for Myanmar have reached the impressive total of $71,000. Those interested in contributing can visit www.friendsofconservation.org/Donate.htm
