AMResorts’ New Properties in Mexico

Conejos Bay
All rooms at the upcoming Secrets Huatulco overlook Conejos Bay.

Three Mexican destinations will see three brand-new and one almost-new properties from AMResorts in the next two years. Among these all-inclusives, there will be something to attract almost every type of clientele.

Ixtapa

On November 1, AMResorts will reintroduce the Sunscape Resorts & Spas brand with the opening of Sunscape Dorado Pacifico Ixtapa (formerly Dorado Pacifico Ixtapa). Following a $10 million renovation, this will become AMResorts’ first property in the popular Mexican destination of Ixtapa on the Pacific coast.

The 285-room Sunscape Dorado Pacifico Ixtapa is set on Playa del Palmar—which has received the government’s distinction for clean beaches—in the heart of Ixtapa. Among the rooms will be 20 oceanfront family-style suites, all with private terraces and views of Palmar Bay.

Six international restaurants and three bars will serve regional and international cuisine and unlimited premium beverages, while two pools—including a main pool with two waterslides and a swim-up bar—two lighted tennis courts, and an array of activities will keep guests entertained.

Families with children can take advantage of the resort’s revamped Explorers’ Club for Kids, which runs fully supervised activities for younger guests (ages 3-12). Activities include sandcastle competitions, arts and crafts, big-screen movies on the beach and daily campout adventures. A brand-new Core Zone Teen’s Club will provide dedicated activities and facilities for teens.

The resort’s new spa will come with couples’ treatment rooms and oceanfront massage options. A full-service beauty salon with hair treatments, waxing and manicure and pedicure services will also be part of the spa.

The multimillion-dollar renovation calls for a complete upgrade to all the resort’s rooms—from decor to amenities such as LED TVs, minibars and more. Like most AMResorts properties, destination weddings are expected to be big business, so a new wedding gazebo is also being added. Once the renovation is complete, the resort will be equipped to handle almost any guest request, but your main target should still be families.

Huatulco

In the resort hideaway of Huatulco, the new Secrets will have 399 rooms and such chic amenities as a glass restaurant overlooking a cliff. The property, described as “sleek, contemporary, state-of-the-art,” will open in June.

This will be the newest resort in Huatulco and the first luxury adults-only. All rooms are oceanfront, overlooking Conejos Bay, one of nine spectacular bays along a 22-mile stretch of the Pacific in Huatulco. The resort will offer eight reservation-free, gourmet restaurants; six bars and lounges; pool and beach wait service; and 24-hour room and concierge service.

The suites will have LCD satellite TV, a daily refreshed premium minibar and more. Select suites will have a furnished patio or balcony and a terrace Jacuzzi or swim-out pool access.

For leisure, there will be billiards, Hobie Cats and windsurfing, along with nightly entertainment, theme parties and movies on the beach. A fitness center and swimming pools on site, and excursions to the Copalita waterfalls, La Bocana lagoon and Rio Copalita will be among other highlights.

A Secrets Spa by Pevonia has plunge pools and a salon using Pevonia, Phyto and L’anza products, and will serve up hydrotherapy and body treatments.

Pitch this resort to couples either getting married, honeymooning or celebrating an anniversary. It is perfect for a wedding, considering the new, decked-out wedding gazebo and array of onsite romantic spots on the property. Packages will also be available where couples receive—among other extras—a fresh fruit basket, champagne, breakfast in bed, and a private beachfront dinner with a rose petal path and candlelight.

Puerto Vallarta

Two highly anticipated AMResorts properties are slated to open in Puerto Vallarta in the summer of 2012 and, as of now, are ahead of schedule. The company announced the ground-breaking for both properties less than a year ago and it appears as though they may be ready by the end of this year.

The $150 million project introduces the first Secrets and Now properties to the popular destination. The development represents Puerto Vallarta’s first new-build hotels in almost a decade. The adults-only Secrets Vallarta Bay Resort & Spa will have 271 guest rooms, while the luxury Now Amber Puerto Vallarta will have 331 accommodations.

The Secrets resort is made up entirely of Preferred Club Suites with impressive oceanfront views, some of which have swim-out pools. Being built on Banderas Bay, one of the world’s largest, on the Pacific coast, Secrets Vallarta Bay Resort & Spa is 15 minutes from the airport and five minutes from downtown Puerto Vallarta.

Now Amber Puerto Vallarta is a few steps away from the famous boardwalk El Malecón and its vibrant ambiance made up of art galleries, shopping area and amazing nightlife. Some swim-out suites have direct access to the pool. All suites overlook the Pacific and there are several crystalline infinity pools (one for adults only), gourmet restaurants, bars and lounges.
