Spurred by the tourism boom that is currently taking place in Panama, large international hotel chains like Hilton, Starwood, Sheraton and Trump, among others, have opened modern and sophisticated properties designed to meet the growing demand in the country.
With these new hotels, Panama is expected to reach an occupancy rate of more than 24,000 rooms in 2012.
As part of this commitment to Panama and its first investment outside North America, the Trump Hotel Collection opened the Trump Ocean Club International Hotel & Tower Panama; a five-star hotel in the tallest building in Latin America with views of the Pacific Ocean. The tower is 70 floors.
Meanwhile, Hilton has recently opened the doors to its Double Tree hotel, located on "Vía España”-an area where some of Panama City's greatest attractions are located. With an investment of $30 million, and after more than a year of construction and renovation, the Double Tree hotel offers 213 rooms designed to be convenient for both business and leisure travelers.
Starwood plans to increase its presence in Panama by opening two Westin hotels in the country under a franchise agreement with Bern Hotels and Panama Resorts.
With the opening date scheduled for this November, the Westin Playa Bonita offers views of the Pacific Ocean and the Panama Canal, 611 deluxe rooms, 65,000 square feet of meeting rooms, three restaurants, a spa and several pools.
Located in the heart of Panama City's financial district- Costa del Este-Panama's Westin Hotel will be completed by 2012. This hotel will have 198 rooms, including 45 suites and meeting space of nearly 10,000 square meters equipped with the latest technology.
Continuing with its expansion strategy, Starwood is also preparing to launch an Aloft hotel in Panama City; through a franchise agreement with New Hotels of Panama, which will be the first Aloft in Latin America. The hotel, scheduled for January 2013, will be modern, urban, vibrant and aimed at a younger traveler.
