Mexico Presents Rosy Picture Over Passport Issue

With the implementation of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, most of the sturm and drang has been coming out of the Caribbean. The Mexico Tourism Board, which has been comparatively laid back about the new passport regulations, today released figures that forecast reductions in Mexico's international tourism revenues by only 2.2 percent this year. Mexico's Tourism Secretary, Rodolfo Elizondo, reports that the number of Americans who traveled to Mexico by air and did not have passports dropped to six percent by January 2007, in part due to an informational campaign launched last October by the Mexico Tourism Board, with the support of tour operators such as Apple Vacations and Funjet.
