TGV Speeds to New Record

RailEurope's TGV train broke the world record for rail speed on Tuesday, edging out the 1990 record setter with a speed of 357 miles per hour. The double-decker train carrying VIPs and journalists was an enhanced version of the equipment that will run on the new TGV East line, the company said. The high-speed service beings on June 10, with a normal speed of 199 miles per hour. TGV East is expected to cut travel time significantly between Paris and the regions of Champagne, Lorraine and Alsace, as well as connections to Germany, Luxembourg and Switzerland.
