American Cruise Lines has announced that, starting in the summer of 2012, it will offer Civil War themed cruises onboard its new sternwheeler Queen of the Mississippi.
During these cruises, passengers canretrace the steps of the Civil War. The cruise will include stops at Vicksburg’s National Military Park and New Orleans’s Civil War Museum, the oldest museum in Louisiana. In addition, the cruise will visit the 60-foot statue of Robert E. Lee in New Orleans and the famous battlefields of Vicksburg and Nashville. On board the ship, passengers can enjoy era-inspired entertainment, music and cuisine, as well as enjoy the knowledge of Civil War historians and lecturers.
“This reinforces our efforts to provide enriching cruises for our passengers – offering an elegant peek into American history through its waterways,” said Timothy Beebe, vice president of American Cruise Lines. “Cruising aboard Queen of the Mississippi is a historic experience on its own – only to be heightened by our Civil War theme cruises. Passengers are in for quite a treat.”
Currently under construction in Salisbury, Maryland, the Queen of the Mississippi will be the first new overnight sternwheeler built for the Mississippi in nearly 20 years. The ship will boast private balconies, six lounges, a library, a dining salon and elevator service to all decks.
Dates and further information on the Civil War themed cruises will be available later this summer.
