JetBlue, Emirates Partnership Facilitates Easier TravelNovember 15, 2010 By: Melanie Gretchen
Under an interline agreement between New York airline JetBlue Airways and the Dubai-based carrier, Emirates, travelers will be able to purchase joint itineraries, enabling one-stop check-in and baggage transfer between the airlines. In the days following the agreement, travelers will be able to purchase a single combined ticket for JetBlue and Emirates-operate flights via the GDS, online travel agencies and by calling Emirates reservations. Soon, fares will also be available on Emirates' site at www.emirates.com.
Currently, Emirates offers two daily nonstop flights from New York's John F. Kennedy (JFK) International Airport to Dubai International Airport, with service aboard its flagship A380 and its ultra 777-300ER. Following the new agreement, JetBlue's Boston, Chicago, Orlando and Washington D.C. markets can enjoy Emirates' network out of Dubai's Terminal 3, featuring Auckland, Bangkok, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur, alongside Nairobi, Singapore, Sydney and 10 cities throughout India. Other destinations include the Middle East, the Maldives, Mauritius and the Seychelles.
In turn, Emirates passengers flying out of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Gulf region can enjoy JetBlue's all-leather seating, unlimited free snacks and drinks, plus the most legroom in economy class (based on average fleet-wide seat pitch) and the most free live entertainment of any U.S. carrier. JetBlue currently has one of the country's youngest airline fleets, featuring 157 Airbus and EMBRAER aircraft. At JFK Airport, JetBlue flies out of its new 26-gate Terminal 5, while Emirates is conveniently located in Terminal 4.
