Moscow Welcomes Obama—But Where Is He Staying?

As U.S. President Barack Obama makes his first official visit to Russia, rumors are abounding about where he and his family are staying in Moscow. Interfax, a Russian news service, has reported that Obama and his family are staying at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, where the presidential suite has a view of the Kremlin. The hotel would not confirm the rumor. Former U.S. Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton stayed at the Marriott Grand for their visits.

Moscow is undergoing a rebirth in the luxury hospitality department. In May, Mandarin Oriental announced its plans for a new “upside-down” hotel that would have guests check in on a top floor before descending to their rooms. In June, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts announced that it would open a 400-room, 42-story in the Park Huaming Business Centre in 2012. The Rezidor Hotel Group will redevelop the Hotel Ukraina into the 507-room Radisson Royal Hotel, Moscow by the end of this year, and Raffles will open a 130-room Moscow property in 2011.
