St. Maarten Inagurates New Airport Terminal

After over two years construction, the $90 million new terminal building at Sr. Maarten's Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIA) has opened. Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands was present for the official opening of the new terminal building. The 88,583 square-feet addition nearly doubles the size and passenger capacity of the former facility, which is now designed to accommodate 2.5 million passengers per year. The new airport terminal will facilitate check-in and baggage re-claim and has features such as automatic teller machines, shopping and dining. Work has already begun for an extension of the runway.
