Early Sunday morning, a local excursion boat within Greenland's Ilulissat Icefjord began to sink. The 23 cruise passengers on tour and three crew members were all rescued, according to a story in the Arctic Journal.

Other local boats, along with inflatable boats from the passengers' luxury cruise ship, Ponant's L'Austral, undertook the rescue. The local newspaper quoted Sebastian Bech, the acting police commissioner in Ilulissat, as saying that everyone was saved and all are doing okay and back on their cruise ship.

Authorities in Greenland are investigating the cause of the accident. Reportedly, the locally hired boat struck something or was hit by something prior to sinking, the newspaper said.

We have asked Ponant for a statement and will post any comments here if received.
