Onsite Exclusive: Singita to Build in the Seychelles?

NEW YORK–At an event to familiarize travel agents with its properties, Mark Whitney, Singita's director, told Travel Agent that the Singita Management Company purchased an eight-island atoll in the Seychelles last month and is in the process of deciding whether to build on it. The atoll, called Farquahar, measures six miles across and is 1,000 kilometers south of Mahe. If Singita does develop the atoll, it will build 26 guest villas and sell 16 private homes. Whitney said that a significant percentage of Singita's guests combine a safari with an island vacation. Singita, which consistently wins such accolades as "World's Best Hotel," operates four lodges in and around South Africa's Kruger National Park and three in Tanzania at Singita Grumeti Reserves. In July, it will assume management of Singita Pamushana Lodge in Zimbabwe. Visit [www.singita.com] and [www.grumetireserves.com].
