The CTC and ISPA Unveil Spa Survey Results

April 11, 2006 By: Erin Sternthal Travel Agent

The Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) and the International Spa Association (ISPA) have conducted a new spa-traveler study, "Identifying the Spa Traveler: A Look at U.S. and Canadian Consumer Attitudes and Motivators for Spa Vacations." The study reveals that spa travelers differ from spa-goers in that spa-goers view a spa trip as part of a long-term health and wellness approach while the spa traveler is looking to splurge and indulge. The study also found that one third of spa travelers are men and resort/hotel spas are the most popular type of facility booked. Massage is the top spa treatment followed by facials, body treatments and manicures/pedicures. The survey also uncovered the five determining factors for a spa vacation destination: lodging, personalized services, cost/value for money, affordable destinations and type of spa treatments. The full study can be found at [].
