|At the One&Only Spa, visitors can relax amongst Mexico’s tropical flora and fauna.|
These days it’s hard to find a resort whose name doesn’t end with “& Spa.” That’s a good thing of course, and nowhere is this phenomenon more prevalent than in Los Cabos. Here is a small sampling of the many and varied wellness options clients can enjoy there.
For an all-natural spa adventure, suggest the One&Only Palmilla in San José del Cabo, where guests can relax amongst tropical flora and fauna. They can also take advantage of all the outdoor amenities, including the hot and cold plunge pools, natural showers and relaxation garden. Need more sunshine? Book an outdoor, oceanside palapa for a massage, meditation session or some yoga. Inside Tip: We think the Personalized Body Ritual sounds like the best way to restore energy. It includes an exfoliation with marine algae and then a mud wrap is applied.
After the wrap, it’s off to one of those outdoor showers before an aromatherapy massage. Guests can choose from a Detoxifier, De-Stressor, Muscle Relaxer, Jet-Lag Reviver, Immune Booster, Energizer and Body Toner. Suggest your spa-going clients to book a suite that comes with complimentary spa access. Even if they aren’t planning to visit the spa during their trip, the option is always there.
In Cabo San Lucas, book the One-Bedroom Beachfront Suite at The Resort at Pedregal. This getaway includes a 35-foot private beach, beach cabana, a private swimming pool and complimentary access to the spa and wet areas. The Luna y Mar Spa, meaning moon and sea, was created by renowned spa designer Sylvia Sepelli. This relaxing center has three main themes of healing inspired by the moon and the sea. As for what clients should book, we hear the Aquatic Massage will take spa-goers into a warm pool of water to help them fully relax.
Among the newer hotels in Los Cabos, the six-month-old The Cape, A Thompson Hotel offers the Currents spa. Nestled in one of the natural rock formations found at the resort, Currents offers ocean-view cabanas for al fresco treatments, hot and cold plunge pools, steam room, sauna and an intimate couples treatment room with rain showers and private pool.
Newer still is the JW Marriott Los Cabos Beach Resort and Spa, which opened in November. The 6,560-square-foot Jasha Spa offers a full range of treatments plus indoor pools, a hydrotherapy circuit, separate men’s and women’s lounges, a botanical garden and an ancient pre-Hispanic temazcal (sweat lodge). The menu includes a “Couple’s Retreat”; “Passage” pre-wedding preparations for both brides and grooms; and, for when they return the following year, a “Mom-to-Be Massage.” There is also yoga, Pilates, zumba and water aerobics.
The post-hurricane recovery of Esperanza, An Auberge Resort took longer than many other Los Cabos properties, but the wait was well worth it. The rejuvenated Spa offers handcrafted indigenous botanical treatments in indoor and outdoor rooms, many with private outdoor soaking tubs. A couple’s suite provides a private retreat, with a soaking pool, an outdoor shower, sunbathing and relaxation area. There is also a yoga studio and a beach palapa with a great view of the breaking Baja surf.
