Major Travel Tech Cos. Zero in on Leisure Market

In recent weeks, Amadeus and Galileo, both providers of global distribution systems, have launched tools aimed at the leisure market. Amadeus last week released Amadeus Activities & Entertainment, a destination platform that allows users to book local leisure and transport services through one interface. Over the next six months, the new tool will roll out across North America, the United Kingdom and Spain, with France, Germany and Italy following over the course of the next year. The content is made available through a partnership with Switzerland-based Unaira, a consolidator of such leisure services as city tours and event tickets. Amadeus says the new tool gives agencies access roughly 30,000 products in over 400 destinations worldwide, as well the opportunity to earn up to an 8 percent commission. Meanwhile, Galileo on Monday announced a partnership with Revelex Corp., a travel technology company, to launch a browser-based booking tool for tours and cruises. The tool, currently only available to agents in the United States, offers information like available inventory and rates, itineraries and images of deck plans, cabins and hotels. "Revelex is developing a program specifically tailored to meet Galileo's needs," said David Goodis, CEO of Revelex.
