New Date in Sabre American Airlines Antitrust ActionMay 30, 2012 By: Newswire Travel Agent
Sabre reports that Texas State District Court Judge Don Cosby has granted Sabre a 60-day extension in the Texas antitrust lawsuit filed by American Airlines (AA) last year. The trial is now set to begin Oct. 3, 2012.
AA's claims are without merit, Sabre said in a statement. "We continue to believe that our shared stakeholders would be better served by negotiations, rather than litigation, between the companies. To that end, we hope that AA will end this wasteful process. However, since AA continues its litigious course, we will continue to mount a vigorous defense," Sabre said.
Sabre travel agency, corporate and consumer customers will have continued access to AA content through the Sabre global distribution system throughout the duration of the airline's Texas state lawsuit against Sabre, the company said.
"We respect the court's decision and look forward to pursuing our legal rights and seeking compensation for the harm done to our company as a result of Sabre's antitrust law violations," said an American Airlines spokesperson. "American's current distribution agreement with Sabre will remain in effect until 14 days after the conclusion of the Texas antitrust trial."
The lawsuit is part of an ongoing battle between airlines and GDS providers over control of distribution content.
