Thailand is Ready for TouristsNovember 8, 2011 By: Meagan Drillinger
As Thailand works to recover from the months of flooding, the Tourism Authority of Thailand wants to assure visitors that Thailand is in fact open for business.
According to Srisuda Wanapinyosak, director of TAT's New York office, the Tourism Authority would like to clarify some misconceptions about tourist destinations in Thailand. First, the flooding has mainly impacted the provinces along the Chao Phraya River, including parts of Bangkok and Ayutthaya, but the vast majority of Thailand's most popular tourist destinations (including Phuket, Ko Samui, Krabi, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Sukhothai) have had no flooding whatsoever.
While the majority of the flooding took place in the central regions, areas like Pattaya and Hua Hin have not been affected.
Wanapinyosak notes that hotels, shops and most tourist attractions in Bangkok have remained unharmed, as has Suvarnabhumi Airport. Don Mueang airport's closer does not impact arriving or departing international visitors and for the time being the two domestic airlines have switched their operations to Suvarnabhumi Airport.
