The Prime Minister of Thailand, Abhisit Vejjajiva, has pledged a stimulus package to boost tourism. The package includes a three-month waiver on visa fees, decreased landing charges and a 50 percent discount on entry to the country’s visitor attractions. Abhisit Vejjajiva attempted to reassure potential travelers about the country’s stability, following political crises including the civil unrest last November which temporarily closed Bangkok’s airports. Thailand saw more than 14 million visitors last year, 1.5 percent down from 2007. The prime minister added that government strategy would include efforts to expand medical tourism, and meetings and events travel.
