Six Flags Great America Debuts Riptide Bay at Hurricane HarborJune 3, 2011 By: Melanie Gretchen
Between Chicago and Milwaukee, Six Flags Great America has launched Riptide Bay at Hurricane Harbor. Following completion of the four-acre water park expansion begun last fall, Hurricane Harbor has 20 acres in total, including more slides and attractions than any other water park in the state.
Four new slides feature Skybox drops, including free-falling five stories into Dive Bomber's loop or a racing down Mega Wedgie's 80-degree dive, as well as twin versions for speed contests. Visitors can take to the only place to surf on Lake Michigan with Surf Rider, a five-foot, wave surfing simulator, or visit Monsoon Lagoon, a 14,000-square-foot activity pool, which boasts waterfalls and interactive spray features. We hear the 400 feet of enclosed tubes in Wipeout, a double-funnel raft slide, is family-friendly, as are the new luxury cabans, gift shop and tiki snack bar.
Other park features include 14 roller costers, shows, a nighttime illuminated parade and three children's themed areas. Since it opened in 2005, Hurricane Harbor is free with a season pass or park admission.
