South African Tourism (www.southafrica.net)  is partnering with South African Airways (www.flysaa.com) at the New York Times Travel Show, taking place today through February 8, 2009 at the Jacob Javits Center.

At the South Africa Booth #627, representatives share information on the latest developments in South Africa’s tourism product, including preparations for the 2010 FIFA World Cup from June 11 to July 11, 2010.

Two wine tastings will also be featured over the weekend, with South African premium wines provided by Cape Classics. The first tasting will be held at the AFRICA stage on Saturday, February 7 at 1:30 p.m.; the second will take place at the EUROPE stage on Sunday, February 8 at 1:00 pm.

South African Tourism is represented at a trade-only event, the Focus on Africa conference, sponsored by the Association for the Promotion of Tourism to Africa (APTA) today. Agents will hear firsthand from destination experts about opportunities available to sell Africa. Sthu Zungu, president of South African Tourism, North America, will participate in a panel discussion on “Overcoming Perceived Problems When Selling Africa,” as part of an overall session on the market forecast and update for Africa.

The exchange rate is currently at US$1 = SA Rand 10, making the destination a desirable travel option.
