Tourism Australia Harnesses Internet

June 20, 2006 By: Camie Foster Travel Agent

Communicating with potential travelers online is an important element of Tourism Australia's outreach to consumers, Michael Londregan, vice president the Americas said Tuesday in a press briefing at the Australian Tourism Exchange, the country's annual tourism trade show. Australia.com is the top site for trip planning, according to Londregan, who said that it draws a larger number of visitors seeking Australia information than Travelocity, Orbitz and Expedia combined. Londregan noted that 80 percent of U.S. travelers to Australia use the web for planning, with about 25 percent of Americans booking their trips with travel agents. Time spent researching and planning travel to Australia still spans an average 7.1 months, Londregan said.
