KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is expanding its network to Austin, Texas. The airline will operate a direct service between Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) and Austin–Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) three times a week on Monday, Thursday and Saturday, starting March 28 this year.
Austin, the capital of Texas, is the 19th destination in North America to be served by KLM. It is known as the “Live Music Capital of the World” and is considered an epicenter of the tech industry owing to its high concentration of startups and tech companies. This route was originally scheduled to start in May 2020 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Austin is KLM’s second destination in Texas after Houston. Flights will be operated by a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner featuring flat beds with direct aisle access, HD entertainment and Wi-Fi on board. The aircraft incorporates several innovations to enhance passenger well-being and sustainability and gas 30 percent larger windows; ambient LED mood lighting; higher cabin pressure; increased humidity; and double air filtration. The fuel consumption is 20 percent lower and there is less noise during take-off and landing compared with similarly sized aircraft. Less waste was generated during manufacturing of the aircraft and end-of-life recycling methods will also be followed.
Passengers flying from Austin can connect to over 60 destinations across Europe, Africa and India via Amsterdam Schiphol. The airport is among Europe’s most popular for transfers due to its single terminal design and multitude of shops and services.
As far as the flight schedule is concerned, KL0668 will depart Austin at 6 p.m. local time and arrive at Schiphol the next day at 10:25 a.m.; and KL0667 will depart Schiphol at 12:40 p.m. and arrive at 4:10 p.m. local time in Austin.
