ARC: Agents Air Sales 3.69 Percent Ahead

The consolidated dollar value of airline tickets sold by U.S.-based travel agencies increased 3.69 percent year-over-year in the first 10 months of 2012 compared to the same period in 2011, and 9.93 percent over the same period in 2010, ARC reports. From January through October 2012, ticket sales totaled $73.7 billion, compared to $71 billion in 2011, and $67 billion in 2010.

Year-to-date passenger segments for the first 10 months of 2012 increased slightly 0.08 percent– at 314.1 million segments, compared to 313.8 million in 2011 – while reflecting a -0.08 percent decrease from the same period in 2010. Ticket transactions between January and October 2012 also decreased somewhat by 0.23 percent over the same period in 2011, while down by 2.6 percent compared to the same period in 2010, ARC said.

The results are based on sales data ending Oct.31, 2012 from  13,688 U.S. retail and corporate travel agencies, satellite ticket printing offices, and online travel agencies, ARC said. They do  not include sales of tickets purchased directly from airlines and total sales are equal to the total amount paid for a ticket, which includes taxes and fees.
