Hawaii Hotels Start March in Mixed Fashion

Hawaii hotels posted mixed results for the week of Feb. 25-Mar. 3, according to data released by Hospitality Advisors. Overall, occupancy was 72.7 percent, down almost 11 percent from the same week a year earlier. However, room rates were up by almost 9 percent, to an average $199.61. The island where hotels recorded the lowest dip in occupancy was Kauai, where occupancy was at 69.1 percent, off 2.4 percent. And Maui, which saw a bit more of a dip, with occupancy off by 6.6 percent to 76.6 percent, posted a healthy increase in room rate, up by 12.5 percent to an average $266.60.
