Princess Cruises' newest ship, Royal Princess, had its keel set in Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy last week. Princess Cruises traditionally blesses each ship's keel by way of a priest, and this ceremony was no different as the 500 ton keel received its blessing and was placed into position by a computer-guided crane. The ship is slated to be completed in spring 2013.

Carnival Cruise Lines named Thomas Hogan as its new vice president of finance on Oct. 21. Previously, Hogan was executive vive president for Talisker Mountain, and he also spent 10 years working for Marriott International, where he held several executive positions for the company's Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company division.

Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas offered an advanced viewing of Dreamworks' new animated film Puss in Boots, which opens nationwide Oct. 28, 2011. Cruises were able to sit in on Dreamwork's newest film two weeks early, with the screening taking place Oct. 16.

Norwegian Cruise Line will be offering Halloween festivities across 11 of its Freestyle Cruising ships. The activities a costume contest, Halloween ball, horror movie trivia and decorations adorning the entire ships. Additionally, the Second City Comedy Troupe will be performing murder mystery lunches aboard Norwegian Dawn, Epic, Gem, Pearl, Spirit, Star and Pride of America. Special Halloween themed dining options will also be made available.
