U.K. Lobbies for Tighter Airline Security Measures

The United Kingdom is lobbying European Union nations to beef up airline security restrictions in the wake of a foiled terrorist attempt in August to blow up several airliners leaving the country for the U.S., The Financial Times is reporting. Officials from the E.U. are set to meet in Brussels Wednesday to review U.K. proposals for restrictions on hand luggage and passenger screening. "We cannot disinvent the threat of liquid explosives so we cannot go back to the security regime that existed prior to Aug. 10," the FT quoted a U.K. security official as saying.
