Icelandair to Offer New Direct Flights From Alaska to ReykjavikSeptember 4, 2012 By: Newswire
Icelandair, an Iceland-based airline in the capital city of Reykjavik, will offer seasonal direct flights from Anchorage beginning in the summer of 2013.
This seasonal service will link travelers in Alaska to Icelandair's main hub and offer a new route to travel to and from Europe. The latest addition of Alaska as a destination opens up new opportunities for international travel for residents.
"From its hub in Reykjavik, Icelandair offers nonstop connections to more than 20 destinations in Scandinavia, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe," the company said in a press release, which means Alaskans can use the seasonal service as a starting point to other destinations.
Icelandair will also include more destinations to Europe with two flights a week to Zurich, Switzerland and two flights a week to St. Petersburg, Russia.
Icelandair flights to St. Petersburg will begin June 1, 2013 with nonstop flights from Iceland twice a week through September 17, 2013. Flights to Zurich, will begin June 1, 2013 with nonstop flights from Iceland twice a week through September 14, 2013.
The bi-weekly seven hour flights will begin in mid-May and continue through mid-September of 2013. Additionally, Alaska Airlines will provide supporting connections to the Icelandair flights through Anchorage to further promote the new seasonal service.
To gain a stronger collaboration with the state of Alaska, Icelandair’s partner, Alaska Airlines, will provide connections to Icelandair flights through Anchorage. The partnership will give travelers from the surrounding areas more choices to Europe while increasing jobs and revenue for the state.
