Several international airlines have recently announced new and increased service to Alaska, allowing for more international travelers to visit the state during the summer. Russia’s Yakutia Airlines, Korean Air and Japan Airlines will all begin offering flights for the first time, and German Airline Condor is increasing its flights to 73 this summer.
According to the Alaska Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development, international visits to the state increased 10 percent to 154,000 visitors during the summer of 2011.
Going along with this recent increase in visitation, Glacier Bay National Park, a popular stop for visitors, has become more accessible with new flight specials and ferry rides. Alaska Airlines is offering specials and new stops to the town of Gustavus through August 25, 2012, where travelers can book a day-long or multi-day stopover in Glacier Bay for no additional cost when booking a flight from Juneau from any Alaska Airlines city. Ferry service has also been extended to Glacier Bay through Gustavus, where travelers can transfer to the part for no additional charge.
