Disney Cruise Line Renegotiating Port Canaveral Contract

Disney Cruise Line may be moving some of its operations away from its home base of Port Canaveral as its contract with the terminal expires next summer. DCL's senior vice president of operations, Tom Wolber, indicated that Miami and Fort Lauderdale are options, although it's still highly unlikely a move from Port Canaveral is imminent. (The port is only 60 miles from Walt Disney World in Orlando.) Disney has exclusive use of the terminal, which was built at a cost of over $26 million, for its Magic and Wonder ships. In 2011 and 2012, Disney will welcome two new ships to the fleet, which will be taller than the Magic and Wonder. Port upgrades will need to be made to accommodate the ships.
