Florida authorities have awarded the owners of Gulfstream Park in South Florida a license to operate slot machines at the thoroughbred racing track. In its official release Magna Entertainment Corporation says it plans to have 516 slot machines operating within the next several weeks, but Mike Mullaney, a spokesman for Gulfstream, told Travel Agent the slots should be operating within four weeks. Florida voters gave the four existing betting institutions in Broward County permission in March 2005 to operate up to 1,500 slot machines at each location. The other three are Pompano Park, Dania Jai-Alai, and The Mardi Gras Racetrack & Gaming Center (a greyhound track).
