Kennedy Space Center Unveils Angry Birds Family Attraction

Space ShuttleAngry Birds, the popular game for mobile devices, is recently brought to life at the new Angry Birds Space Encounter at Kennedy Space Center (KSC) Visitor’s Complex

After an inviting tweet, KSC partnered with Rovio to design the interactive attraction for all ages, which opened today in Orlando, Florida. Bill Moore, chief operating officer of KSC, remarks “Angry Birds Space Encounter is both a fun and educational experience,” explaining that, “concepts of human space exploration are incorporated into Angry Birds Space Encounter, reflecting Kennedy Space Center Visitor’s Complex’s ongoing mission to encourage young people in the STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematic) fields of study.” The attraction is included in regular admission, which is $50 for adults and $40 for kids ages 3-11.

The attraction is sub-divided into six parts, each with a unique Angry Birds space themed quest.  From a slingshot tournament to dethrone King Pig, to a mirror labyrinth, to solving sliding puzzles, visitors follow the birds as they fall into an inter-galactic wormhole in search of their stolen eggs.

“NASA and Rovio have worked together to teach players about physics and space exploration and energize young people regarding future careers in science and technology” says astronaut Donald Pettit, Ph.D.

Other KSC attractions include scheduled opportunities to meet real astronauts, a simulated journey of vertically launching into space and orbiting earth aboard the space shuttle, and the Astronaut Training Experience (ATX).  What’s more, the KSC Up-Close Tour Series runs now till the end of June, where participants are allowed access to the vehicle assembly building, launch control center and launch pad.  The tour is an additional $25 for adults and $19 for children.
