Southwest Florida Spends $100 Million on Upgrades

Sunbathers, vacationers and baseball enthusiasts visiting the beaches of Fort Myers and Sanibel in southwest Florida can visit a new baseball stadium, renourished beaches and newly renovated accommodations. From 2010 to 2012 approximately $101 million was spent on upgrades within the Lee County area.

About a dozen hotels in the area remodeled their guestrooms and upgraded their restaurants. Along with hotels, other nearby natural sites and attractions have gotten a facelift. The City of Fort Myers Yacht Basin spent about $1 million on dock repairs and drinking water improvements. The Estero Island Beach  was saved from damaging erosion with a $4.2 million beach restoration. Also among the many projects, the Boston Red Sox spring training home will be complete by February 2012.
