Hawaii Assessments Continue in Quake's Wake

October 17, 2006 By: Camie Foster Travel Agent

HONOLULU–As Tuesday dawned in Hawaii, daily life was largely back to normal for both visitors and residents. "All properties in the state of Hawaii are open for business," state tourism liaison Marsha Wienert tells Travel Agent. "Do not hesitate to book clients to Hawaii-activities are up and running and everything is back to normal." Some rooms in several hotels on the Big Island sustained minor damage, Wienert says. She adds that in a preventive, proactive measure to ensure guest safety, hotels in the area are undergoing structural assessments that are continuing on Tuesday. The eighth floor of the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel sustained some damage and guests were relocated within the resort until the structural assessment there is completed. Also on the Kohala Coast, the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel had temporarily taken its top three floors out of service until a structural assessment was complete. That work has been done and those rooms were put back into service as of Tuesday morning, according to a hotel spokeswoman.
