Boulder Dam Hotel Saved By Anonymous Donation

July 21, 2009 By: Megan Stride

Nine days after the historic Boulder Dam Hotel in Nevada closed its doors, an anonymous donation of $260,000 breathed new life into the Boulder City property's future yesterday.

The donation was made to the nonprofit Boulder City Museum and Historic Association, which owns the 76-year-old property. The location includes a museum and restaurant along with the hotel, which in the past has catered to celebrities like Bette Davis, Shirley Temple and Henry Fonda.

After several failed attempts to find funding, including a petition to the city for redevelopment funds, The Boulder Dam Hotel and Museum closed on July 11. The Las Vegas Sun reports that the property had fallen three months behind on its mortgages of $940,000, and that revenue had declined $60,000 since December.
