NEW ROOM DESIGNS AT MIRAGE
The Mirage (www.mirage.com) is undergoing a $110 million room and suite redesign, which promises to blend stylish luxury with contemporary comforts.
The resort's 2,765 Deluxe and Tower Deluxe accommodations will reflect upscale living through multi-sensory design that will feature an overall neutral color scheme offset by pops of color, metal and wood. Fabrics will also emphasize texture more than pattern.
Other additions will be pillowtop mattresses, 42-inch LCD TVs, iPod/MP3-compatible clock radios and office spaces in guest rooms. The Mirage's Deluxe King and Deluxe Queen rooms will also receive upgrades as part of the project.
In other news from the Mirage's parent company, MGM Mirage Hospitality has appointed Michael Evans executive vice president of global development. MGM Mirage formed the Hospitality subsidiary last May to extend the company's hotel brands and develop luxury hotel brand concepts in the U.S. and abroad. Evans will direct strategy, identifying and pursuing global opportunities. The company already has announced an agreement to develop MGM Grand Abu Dhabi and is in discussions for several additional developments around the world. Evans most recently served as senior vice president of international hotel development for Marriott International.

FORMER DEBBIE REYNOLDS HOTEL READIES FOR IMPLOSION
Las Vegas' denizens are getting accustomed to watching hotels fall. This time it's the Greek Isles Hotel and Casino—formerly the Debbie Reynolds Hotel—whose new owner plans to close and implode the property to make way for a new mixed-use development.
Clark County commissioners have approved plans for the development on the 6.1-acre site on Convention Center Drive. The project calls for two towers with 780 rooms, a 77,000-square-foot casino and 71,200 square feet of convention space, stores and restaurants.
Other nearby projects under development include the New York-based Elad Group's $5 billion Plaza. In addition, Marriott International received county clearance in December to build a 3,500-room hotel and casino on 14.5 acres neighboring the Greek Isles property to the east.
