Thanksgiving Parade May Pass Times Square By

According to a recent article in Crain’s New York Business, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade might bypass Times Square—marking the first time this has happened in the parade’s 84-year history. The reasons? Well, there are several. One reason, however, might be that New York City Mayor Bloomberg plans to transform the iconic area into a pedestrian plaza in May. Another reason might be that Broadway is considered too narrow.

The parade, which plans to move from Broadway to Sixth Avenue, might hurt several businesses on the Manhattan's West Side, which see the events as a huge economic gain. Hotels that might feel the sting are the Marriott Marquis and The Renaissance New York Hotel Times Square, both of which, according to the article, have already started taking reservations for Thanksgiving.
