caracas, venezuelaVenezuelan beauty queen Génesis Carmona, who had been named Miss Tourism Carabobo in 2013, was killed during antigovernment protests, The Washington Post reports. Carmona had been marching with protestors when gunmen on motorcycles fired into the crowd.

Reuters reports that protests have continued since opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez turned himself in to government officials after leading three weeks of protests against the government of President Nicolas Maduro. Four others have died in the recent protests: three were shot dead during an opposition rally in Caracas one week ago, and a fourth person has run over by a car during a demonstration in Carupano

Bloomberg BusinessWeek notes that protests have sporadically continued against the Maduro government since his election in April. The murder of television star and beauty queen Monica Spear in January particularly sparked calls to improve security in the country.
