Travel agents now have access to real-time tracking reports on severe weather storms like Hurricane Irene to keep a closer eye on clients staying in or heading to a threatened region.
Weather Decision Technologies (WDT) has released the iMapTracker, a new emergency information tool designed to serve local newspaper, radio and television websites on providing timely information to the general public.
This video widget, embedded in iMap weather maps in local media sites, features live video updates from experts at The National Hurricane Center (NHC). Travel agents and other digital viewers will be able to turn to participating media outlets to obtain timely updates and online information.
According to WDT, more than 600 media companies have the iMapTracker module already embedded in their websites, in hurricane zones and across the country. A map of these participants can be viewed at www.Emergency.info/nhc
WDT and the involved media companies are also offering WDT's iMapWeather Radio emergency alerting application for the iPhone to all those affected by Irene and associated storms, offering real-time alerts before, during and after a storm.
The iMapTracker feature within the interactive iMap provides real-time video streaming of the NHC's critical storm updates and is set to commence automatically if and when the NHC starts providing regular briefings via an animated notifier on every iMap weather map.
Each NHC update and briefing will be available live and as archived video on-demand, for four hours after the feed is over, to viewers of WDT's partner websites in more than 600 demographic market areas.
For media outlets with iPhone users, WDT is offering on-demand updates directly to mobile phones through the custom iMapWeather Radio iPhone application. The app features real time National Weather Service alerts, watches and warnings, interactive radar, and custom local media videos and programming for the hurricane season.
